MR 4.D: Passion and Death
Justin Martyr's account is about the Eucharist given out on Sundays. In 150 A.D. Chrisitians were being persecuted, and was assumed to be cannibals. In the reading, Justing is writing an apology, or a defense, to that emperor about what is actually going on every Sunday. He explains to the emperor that the "body" and "blood" is the bread and wine that symbolizes the body and blood of Christ that was given to the Christians as a gift during the Last Supper. During the Last Supper, Christ announces to the Disciples that everytime they eat the Eucharist, he will be present in it. Justin Martyr is trying to explain their faith and not actually cannibals. He explains to the emperor that what they are doing is not anything bad, and is them expressing the Last Supper. Even in 150 A.D. the Catholics still believed that the body and blood of Christ is truly present in the Eucharist.
